Man allegedly shot and killed contractor in Third Ward over noise caused by equipment, police say

A Katy man accused of killing a worker cleaning restaurant equipment near Third Ward last Wednesday had complained about the noise caused by a pressure washer, according to court documents.

A witness overheard their argument just after midnight and saw the suspected gunman, identified by authorities as Omar Marzouk, fire first into the air, a Houston police detective wrote in a probable cause statement. The suspected gunman then shot the cleaner, Jimmy Arevalo, in the head, the detective wrote.

Police spoke to at least two people who saw the 12:30 a.m. shooting outside a strip of businesses in the 2500 block of Calumet Street, across from Riverside Park in the Riverside Terrace neighborhood. The witnesses, however, were unable to identify photos of Marzouk as Arevalo’s assailant, according to court filings…
