One of the Houston area’s greenest and most pleasant communities is also the state’s wealthiest suburb, a new analysis found.
West University Place, a city of about 15,000 people nestled within Houston’s Inner Loop, is the wealthiest suburb in Texas, according to personal finance website GoBankingRates. With an average household income of nearly $410,000, West U also ranks as the third-wealthiest suburb in the United States, according to the website.
West University Place, which neighbors Rice University and has a famously beautiful tree canopy supported by a robust city ordinance, was the only Houston suburb to make the top 10. But Bellaire, in southwest Harris County with an average household income of about $311,000 a year, ranked as the fourth-wealthiest suburb in Texas and No. 23 in the country.
