Alexis Cardenas, the Houston man who died after a struggle with Harris County jailers last month, suffered cardiac arrest and had been assaulted, an EMS report reveals.
Cardenas, 32, died July 8 after a fight with detention officers who were attempting to escort him out of Harris County Jail at about 12:50 a.m. A 17-minute video made public last week by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office showed Cardenas being repeatedly punched in the face by a detention officer and pinned to the ground for about seven minutes before jailers noticed he was unresponsive.
Houston Fire Department EMS arrived at the jail about a half-hour later and found Cardenas unconscious without a pulse, according to records obtained by the Chronicle…
