Don’t stress: Your Texas Driver’s License is just getting a new look

HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is rolling out a new Texas driver’s license design starting today, August 18. According to DPS, the new card not only has an updated look, but also has increased security features.

The new cards are made with tamper-resistant materials that make them difficult to reproduce in compliance with the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA).

The updated design will now feature a black, laser-engraved star in the upper right to indicate its a REAL ID, instead of the current gold star. The information on the card has been reorganized to make personal information clearer to ready for verification purposes.

“The way driver licenses are made can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” said DPS Driver License Division Chief Sheri Gipson. “This new card design will make it even more difficult for criminals to produce counterfeit cards, and it enhances ways we can protect Texans’ identities from being stolen.”…
