HOUSTON (KIAH) — Three right lanes are now open after an 8-vehicle hazmat crash closed traffic on the Northwest freeway Monday morning. It happened 290 NW outbound and West Road. HCSO Deputies responded to a major crash in the 1800 block of Northwest Freeway.
An 18-wheeler struck a median, causing damage to several other vehicles. Life Flight responded to the scene. HazMat, Metro PD and Jersey Village PD are assisting.
All westbound lanes are shut down and Eastbound traffic is down to one lane and being diverted onto the service road.
Initial reports, including footage obtained from TranStar at 7:45 a.m., indicate a significant incident involving a heavy load truck, resulting in the complete closure of all main lanes.
Visual assessments from the scene confirm that a large truck has been involved in a crash, causing blockages across all left and center lanes, in addition to disrupting portions of the HOV.
There were several injuries with two being Life Flighted in unknown condition and 1 person being transported by ground ambulance.
