Standing, sitting or walking on certain traffic medians in Houston prohibited by city council

People have to stay off medians that are less than 6 feet wide. The rule does not apply to people crossing streets.

Certain traffic medians in Houston are now no-go zones for sitting, standing or walking.

In an 11-2 vote, the Houston City Council on Wednesday approved a rule “prohibiting sitting, standing, and walking on median strips measuring six feet or less in width and on divided roadways where no median strip exists.”

“Medians were never meant to be a place for people to walk, sit, stand,” council member Mary Nan Huffman said in support of the measure. “They leave individuals inches away from fast-moving traffic with no protection.”…
