Over a year since the tragic incident on Guadalcanal Road, authorities have made a significant breakthrough in the case. Kedar Andrey Smith, 28, has been taken into custody for the murder of 27-year-old Willie James Whitlock. The fatal shooting that claimed Whitlock’s life occurred late in the night on August 17, 2024, and now, after meticulous investigation, Smith faces charges in the 488th State District Court.
On the scene of that fateful night, Houston Police Department’s patrol officers discovered an unresponsive Whitlock with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the prompt response from the Houston Fire Department paramedics, Whitlock’s injuries proved fatal, as they pronounced him dead at Ben Taub General Hospital. According to the City of Houston News, the investigation led by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Persad and Detectives A. Ledford, Y. Yasin, E. Camacho, and L. Gonzales eventually pinpointed Kedar Smith as a likely suspect.
The adrenaline of collaborative police work culminated on Monday, when Smith was arrested without incident by the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Louisiana State Police, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/Criminal Investigation Division, and the Alexandria Police Department.
