Houston to test wireless emergency alert system on Friday

HOUSTON (KIAH) —The City of HoustonOffice of Emergency Management (OEM) will be conducting a city-wide test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system on Friday, September 5 at 11 a.m. and official want to make sure residents are aware and prepared.

The test will be apart of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) with capabilities to broadcast critical alerts nationwide. NOTE: Individuals in the Houston area will receive the following WEA-mobile message:

NOTE: The alert will also be broadcasted in Spanish:
