Labor Day protesters march from Galleria to Lamar HS amid what some said was ‘overblown’ police presence

Hundreds gathered at the Gerald Hines Waterwall in the Galleria area for a Labor Day rally and march Monday in support of democracy and workers.

The rally, organized by about 20 advocacy groups in the Houston area including 50501 and Houston Coalition, drew protesters who sported signs, shirts and pins with messages critical of billionaires and the Trump administration. It also brought out what some considered an unusually strong police presence.

Leaders said they hoped scheduling the march on Labor Day would help boost attendance and raise awareness of everyday working people…
