FBI’s Operation Summer Heat Nets 64 Arrests in Houston with Millions in Guns and Drugs Seized

FBI Houston’s crackdown on violent crime, dubbed Operation Summer Heat, has culminated in significant arrests and drug seizures. The effort, which spanned three months, led to the arrest of 64 individuals, confiscation of more than $600,000 in illicit proceeds, and recovery of 65 weapons and 339 machine gun conversion devices, as reported by the FBI. Additionally, agents seized substantial amounts of narcotics, including over 85 kilograms of cocaine, 17 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 28 kilograms of fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid.

The operation, which took place between June 24 and September 20, was a coordinated effort by FBI offices nationwide to intensify the fight against violent crime. According to the FBI, the strategic operation involved working closely with state and local partners to execute federal warrants against violent criminals and fugitives, dismantle violent gangs, and solve cases related to violent crimes. In Houston, the goals were met with the arrest of eighteen individuals linked to the Anti-Tren gang, known to be a rival of the Tren de Aragua terrorist organization, along with the successful capture of three listed on Houston’s Most Wanted list.

Douglas Williams, Special Agent in Charge of FBI Houston, highlighted the significance of the recent operation, stating that violent offenders involved in gun violence and drug distribution are now facing the full efforts of FBI Houston and its partners. He also pointed to the disruption of gang activity and the prevention of potential threats linked to unregistered fully automatic weapons, following the recovery of a substantial number of machine gun conversion devices.
