15-year-old Houston boy with autism who’d been missing for 6 days was in custody of immigration authorities, FIEL says

HOUSTON — A 15-year-old boy with autism who disappeared for six days has been found safe but is being held in an immigration facility, leaving his family relieved yet heartbroken.

Emmanuel Gonzalez was located after vanishing last Saturday, but instead of returning home, he remains in custody at a facility run by the Office of Refugee Resettlement. His family was able to speak with him Friday during a 30-minute FaceTime call.

“Emmanuel is in good health. He seems to be physically okay. He is a little bit scared,” said Cesar Espinosa with FIEL, an advocacy organization working with the family…
