HOUSTON (KIAH) – The city’s controversial Pride crosswalk may still be removed, but Houston Mayor John Whitmire is making it clear where he stands: with residents who oppose its removal. During Wednesday’s city council meeting, Whitmire said that while the crosswalk’s future is set by state law, the voices of the community should not be ignored.
The mayor also took aim at what he called the politicization of the issue, criticizing Governor Greg Abbott for using the Pride crosswalks as a political tool.
