A 123-year-old church in Houston’s Third Ward could receive landmark protection in November

Even as Third Ward rapidly changes, Greater Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church has mostly stayed the same during its 123 years.

Its mid-century, brick-veneered sanctuary at 3029 Holman Street could join a small number of landmarks in Third Ward formally protected from demolition or major alteration if the City Council decides next month to grant it protected landmark status — Houston’s highest level of historic recognition and protection.

The public hearing is scheduled for Nov. 12, followed by a vote the next week…
