Houston bayou death toll rises to 28 with latest medical examiner data

The number of people found dead along Harris County bayous has risen to 28 in 2025, according to data released by the medical examiner this month.

The Chronicle previously verified 24 of those deaths but has confirmed four more via records provided by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences over the last two weeks. The newly confirmed deaths include that of 57-year-old Ruben Camacho in February, 34-year-old Jesse Steel in April, 44-year-old John Morgan in May and a suicide victim in May.
