UH student Jade McKissic’s cause of death in bayou is ‘undetermined,’ Houston medical examiner says

The cause of University of Houston student Jade McKissic’s death in Brays Bayou last month has been ruled “undetermined,” according to Harris County’s medical examiner.

McKissic, 20, was found dead in the bayou on Sept. 15, one day after she was reported missing. The cause of her death was pending for more than a month after her body was discovered, but the update — visible in public records Wednesday — means the medical examiner lacks the evidence to establish a definitive ruling.

“Undetermined is intended for cases in which it is impossible to establish, with reasonable medical certainty, the circumstances of death after thorough investigation,” reads a glossary page on the website of the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, which serves as the county’s medical examiner…
