Girl, 5, dies after man drove into oncoming traffic in northeast Houston, sheriff’s office says

A 5-year-old girl has died after she and the driver of the car she was in were struck nearly head-on by another vehicle in northeast Houston Friday night, authorities said..

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call at about 8:30 p.m. after a 20-year-old man driving a white Nissan SUV crossed into oncoming traffic near 8300 E. Mt. Houston St. and collided with a gray Cadillac sedan. The woman driving Cadillac is believed to be the child’s mother.

Members of the EastTex Fire Department provided emergency care at the scene before all three were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The girl died from her injuries while en route to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said, and the female driver sustained serious bodily injuries but was expected to survive. The male driver’s condition remains unclear…
