Street race in Houston leads to arrest after police pursuit

HOUSTON, Texas — A late-night street race in Houston ended with the arrest of a 24-year-old man following a police pursuit, authorities said. The incident occurred early Thursday morning when officers observed two vehicles racing and running a red light.

Precinct 8 Sergeant B. Covey spotted a white Ford F150 and a black Acura sedan racing near S. Shaver St. and Galveston Road, according to a press release from the department. Both vehicles ran a red light at the intersection of Almeda Genoa Road and Rowlett Rd. Deputy D. Lozano managed to stop the Acura, while Sergeant Covey pursued the Ford F-150, which failed to stop, leading to a chase.

The pursuit ended after approximately 4 to 5 miles when the F150 entered a cul-de-sac, and the driver fled on foot. Sergeant Covey deployed his Taser, subduing the suspect, identified as Odilon Ramos-Perez, of Houston, Texas. Ramos-Perez was taken into custody without further incident…
