Humble ISD board votes to implement school marshal program, letting employees carry guns at schools

Some Humble ISD employees will be allowed to bring guns to school under a pilot school marshal program approved Tuesday by the Board of Trustees.

Board members of the 48,000-student district in north Harris County voted 6-1 to introduce the school marshal program, which was created in 2013 and is overseen by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Without this exception, it is against federal law to bring a firearm inside a school zone.

“The real objective of the program isn’t to train everybody to be a sharpshooter and to win that gun battle,” Board Vice President Michael Grabowski said. “The real objective of the marshal program is so that the bad guy knows that if they come into our schools, he’s going to be unsuccessful.”…
