Houston ISD’s board of managers refused to reinstate a guaranteed six-hour workday for HISD bus drivers and attendants, something transportation employees said was a long-standing practice and crucial for them to qualify for family medical leave.
The district’s attorney, Myra Chickering, said HISD removed this wording for the 2025-26 school year because of too much overtime for bus drivers.
More than 30 bus drivers and attendants were at the People’s Choice Association Union’s grievance hearing on Thursday. There, Shameka Lewis, the union’s executive representative, urged attending members near the end of the hearing to “please stand and tell the truth.”…
