A suspect is dead and a Houston police officer is hospitalized after a stabbing incident that led to an officer-involved shooting in downtown Houston on Sunday evening. The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. on Milam near Congress, a popular area with several bars and restaurants in the Theater District. The officers were conducting a routine check at a CVS Pharmacy when a man, reportedly in crisis, walked in speaking loudly. The officers engaged him and asked him to step outside. The situation escalated when the man pulled a knife and stabbed Officer Joaquin Garza behind his left ear. Garza’s partner then fired and killed the suspect. Read more…
