Texas man charged after officer wounded in Gessner Road shooting

HOUSTON, TX – Charges have been filed after a Houston police officer was injured in a shooting in the 6800 block of Gessner Road around 10:40 p.m. on November 22.

According to the Houston Police Department, the driver of a second vehicle fired several shots into an Officer Jake Parker’s personal vehicle as he traveled southbound on Gessner Road at Hempstead Road. The officer returned fire before the other vehicle fled the scene.

The officer then drove to the Northwest Patrol Station, where other officers rendered aid. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center, where he was treated and released. He had been sworn in as a Houston police officer in March 2024 and is assigned to the Northwest Patrol Division.

The Department stated that the shooting suspect, Homero Reyes, 23, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 178th Criminal District Court.
