Houston’s favorite neighborhoods for viewing Christmas lights, according to readers

With the holiday season in full swing, Houstonians may head out to enjoy neighborhood light displays.

From River Oaks to Woodland Heights, many residents have made a tradition of driving through festive streets to boost their holiday cheer. Here are some neighborhoods readers recommended for their dazzling displays.

River Oaks

River Oaks, one of Houston’s most popular holiday neighborhoods, lights up each December with bright displays. Mansions along River Oaks Boulevard are decorated with Christmas décor, and many visitors park and walk to view the homes.

Post Oak Boulevard

Post Oak Boulevard is ideal for a holiday drive or stroll, with decorations on street poles and trees. Hundreds of 20-foot trees decked with LED lights stretch for a mile between San Felipe and Westheimer.

Woodland Heights

Woodland Heights will host its 38th annual Lights in the Heights from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 13. This year’s route includes Bayland and Woodland from Studewood to Beauchamp. The public is invited to walk the streets and enjoy lights and musical performances. “This historic neighborhood closes off streets, has porch bands, and the community goes all in for lights and decorations for ‘Lights in the Heights,’” one reader said.

Shepherd Park Plaza

When approaching Shepherd Park Plaza this Christmas, you’ll know you’ve reached your destination by the arch of lights welcoming guests into the neighborhood where homes shine bright with festive décor.

Candlelight Plaza

Near Shepherd Park Plaza, Candlelight Plaza also features arches of lights on each street and festive displays throughout the neighborhood.

Tanglewood

Tanglewood, a subdivision west of the Galleria, is known for its holiday light displays as well as homes featuring Christmas décor.

Green Tee Terrace in Pearland

Green Tee Terrace is back with its 32nd Tour de Lites on Dec. 13. The Forever Parks Foundation of Pearland will host bike rides and hayrides at Independence Park. Tickets are $10 for kids and $15-$20 for adults.

Candy Cane Lane in Missouri City

Candy Cane Lane, also known for its Halloween décor, will light up Robinson Road homes through Jan. 1.

Johnson’s Christmas Corner in Cypress

Johnson’s Christmas Corner in Cypress returns for another year of joy with more than 70,000 lights, two LED trees, decorations and snow machines. The display runs through Jan. 1.

Prestonwood Forest

Prestonwood Forest will celebrate its Nite of Lites from Dec. 13-31. Homeowners deck out their houses in a friendly competition. Guests can email festive photos from their visit to [email protected].

Pecan Grove

Pecan Grove is known not only for its neighborhood holiday lights that guests will get to enjoy this season but also its hayrides. Pecan Grove will offer $8 hayrides to view Christmas light displays from Nov. 27 to Dec. 31.

Fosters Mill Village in Kingwood

Fosters Mill Village features annual light displays for residents and visitors to enjoy. In past years, the community has hosted hayrides to view the lights.
