NRG Stadium will get a new name for World Cup matches

HOUSTON — Friday is a big day for Houston and the World Cup as the draw takes place. That’s when we’ll find out which teams may come to Houston to play.

So where do the World Cup matches take place in Houston? We’ve been telling you that they’re going to be at NRG Stadium, which is true. But for World Cup matches, it won’t be called NRG Stadium. Because of FIFA World Cup guidelines, corporate sponsors are temporarily removed. The stadium we all know as NRG Stadium will be known simply as Houston Stadium during World Cup matches.
