WCSO: Traffic stop in Webb County leads to human smuggling arrest of teens

The Webb County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Houston teens Monday after a traffic stop near the 30-mile marker revealed a suspected human smuggling attempt, according to the agency.

Deputies working Operation Lone Star stopped a gray Honda Accord around 4:15 p.m. Dec. 8 after noticing it traveling along the interstate access road in a way that suggested an attempt to avoid the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies spoke with the driver and front-seat passenger — later identified as Tristan Nwoko, 18, and Jeremiah Shelley, 19 — they noted suspicious behavior and conflicting statements, according to the sheriff’s office…
