Houston mayor orders red light for “dangerous” Northside roundabout after residents call it a ‘suicide mission’

HOUSTON (CW39) — A Northside roundabout long criticized by neighbors and business owners for causing crashes and confusion will soon be replaced with a traditional red light, Mayor John Whitmire announced Tuesday.

Northside community residents close to the roundabout at Irvington and Patton have been complaining about cars launching straight over the center island – event big trucks, including 18-wheelers driving right on top of it. Community residents told the mayor they familiar sounds of “boom-boom” almost daily.

Mayor Whitmire visited the intersection and spoke directly with neighbors and the owner of a nearby flower shop, who said “customers are afraid to pull out because of the constant danger.”…
