United Airlines flies more than 100 Houston-area seriously ill children to ‘North Pole’

More than 100 children on Saturday morning boarded a flight from Bush Intercontinental Airport to a top secret location: the North Pole.

United Airlines partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to take Houston-area seriously ill children on a trip to visit Santa’s Workshop. It’s an annual tradition the airline calls Fantasy Flights, which returned to the air around the country in 2022, after the pandemic. This year, the company partnered with various local businesses and Walmart to provide food and gifts for the kids, who are selected with the help of Make-A-Wish and area hospitals.

“The children go through so much,” said Peggy Slay. “And to be able to see their faces when they come out (of the flight) and have a day that they don’t have to worry about, doctor’s appointments or medical treatment or feel-bad days. They’re able to come out and enjoy life for a day … it’s just phenomenal.”…
