The body of Christelrose Angel Ramirez was found in a barrel in a wooded area of Northwest Houston, prompting an ongoing investigation. Her boyfriend, 48-year-old Jesus Varela, has been charged with multiple offenses, including murder, assault, unlawful restraint, and tampering with evidence. Court records indicate that Varela allegedly shot Ramirez while she was asleep on or around Dec. 1 and later concealed her body. Court records show that Varela, a Honduran national, is also accused of attempting to involve his nephew in disposing of Ramirez’s body and the mattress she had been lying on. A probable cause hearing revealed allegations that Varela struck his nephew and threatened further violence. An ICE hold has been placed on Varela, who has been living in Houston for nearly two decades. His total bond has been set at $240,000, and a judge denied his request for a personal bond, citing concerns for public safety.
Ramirez’s family is coping with their loss and seeking answers about the events leading to her death.
