Family of Texas A&M grad say she’s ‘safe and back’ with loved ones

The family of Sydney Marquez said this weekend that the 24-year-old Texas A&M graduate reported missing in Houston three weeks ago is now safe.

In a video posted Saturday night, Marquez’s mother Luz said her daughter was in fact found Friday and “is getting the help that she needs.” The statement comes hours after Marquez was turned into the Jersey Village Police Department, who her family said then released her without a hospital-based psychiatric evaluation.

“But thank God, thank God, all glory to God for guiding our steps,” Luz Marquez said. “Right now she’s getting the help that she needs, and I’m so grateful.”

An unknown individual reported seeing Marquez to Jersey Village police early Friday morning. But after meeting with Marquez, police said they “determined she was not a danger to herself or others, and the legal criteria for an Emergency Detention Order were not met.” Police added that Jersey Village Fire Department EMS personnel “conducted a medical evaluation” of Marquez. She then “requested to leave of her own free will and advised that she did not want any assistance.”…
