Masked Gunman Turns Denton Street Parking Lot Fight Into Near-Fatal Ambush

A man believed to be in his mid- to late 20s is fighting for his life after a late-night shooting in a northeast Houston parking lot yesterday, police said. Officers found him with a gunshot wound to the back of the head following what investigators say was an earlier confrontation in the same lot. Houston Fire Department paramedics treated him at the scene before rushing him to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition and was expected to be moved to a higher-level trauma center.

What the police say happened

Northeast patrol officers were called around 10:20 p.m. to a parking lot on Denton Street, according to KHOU. Investigators told the station the gunfire appears to be tied to an assault in the same lot roughly two hours earlier. One person allegedly involved in that first altercation returned with others before the shooting, police said. The wounded man has not been identified, and detectives say the investigation remains very much active, according to the report.

Suspect description and scene details

Witnesses described the shooter as wearing a black mask, a dark jacket and blue jeans, then taking off on foot down Denton Street right after the shots were fired. As FOX 26 Houston reported, about 10 people were in the parking lot during both the earlier assault and the later shooting. Officers said they did not recover a weapon at the scene, and no arrests had been made as of the latest update.
