Houston Islamic Games moved from Cy-Fair ISD site after Gov. Greg Abbott’s letter

HOUSTON (CW39) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is demanding that a Houston-area school district to cut ties with a Muslim youth sports event, citing concerns about its connection to a group he considers a terrorist organization.

Abbott said he sent a letter to Cypress-Fairbanks ISD superintendent Douglas Killian and Board President Julie Hinaman asking the district to sever ties with the 2026 Houston Islamic Games, which were scheduled to take place in September at Bridgeland High School and Sprague Middle School.

In the letter, Abbott said the New Jersey chapter of the Council of American-Islamic Relations, which he identified as a sponsor for the Islamic Games, has been designated by Abbott as a terrorist organization due to alleged ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas…
