Missing Houston Woman Turns Up In Conroe Jail After Burglary Bust

Sydney Marquez, whose December disappearance sparked a weeks-long missing-person search in Houston, is now in a Montgomery County jail on a burglary charge. The arrest answers one big question about where she ended up, while leaving a long list of others about what happened between early January and her latest encounter with law enforcement. Her relatives have repeatedly said she struggles with mental health issues, a detail that has shaped public concern and online interest in the case.

Arrest In Conroe

At 12:13 a.m. on Jan. 16, Montgomery County authorities charged Marquez with one count of burglary of habitation, and booking records show she was still in custody the following morning. The Conroe Police Department told reporters she was taken into custody at a Subway at 3001 N. Fraizer St. in connection with a reported burglary at a private residence on the 800 block of N. Rivershire Drive, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. Montgomery County records list the charge as burglary of habitation.

Jersey Village Encounter And Release

Jersey Village police say they first made contact with Marquez on Jan. 2 after a concerned citizen reported seeing her walking in the 16000 block of Seattle Street. EMS personnel conducted a medical evaluation, and officers determined she did not meet the legal criteria for an emergency detention, so she was released at her own request. Officers also contacted the lead Houston Police Department detective on the missing-person case and later met with Marquez’s parents to review body-camera footage, according to KBTX.

Family Says She Was Found But Questions Remain

Marquez’s family posted that she was “safe” on Jan. 4, but relatives and advocates continued to push for hospital-based psychiatric care, saying the earlier police contact did not resolve their concerns. The family has said Marquez left phones, clothes and makeup in an abandoned car near a Chinatown shopping area on Dec. 11 and has publicly discussed her struggles with mental health, as detailed by the Houston Chronicle.
