Self was on patrol in the 5900 block of the E Sam Houston Pkwy S service road when he observed a gray BMW exiting the main lanes of the E Sam Houston Hwy S and nearly colliding with the driver’s side of Sgt. Self’s fully marked police vehicle. The BMW continued past Sgt. Self’s police vehicle swerved into the adjacent lane and nearly collided with another vehicle. Sgt. Self initiated a traffic stop by activating his emergency lights and sirens. The vehicle failed to stop, and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and the driver, identified as 41-year-old Miranda Rae Carroll, was detained.

While speaking to Carroll, deputies observed multiple signs of intoxication. After completing the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, it was determined that Carroll was unable to operate a motor vehicle safely.
