Fiery South Wayside Rollover Kills One In Late-Night Crash

A late-night rollover crash in southeast Houston turned deadly Saturday when a vehicle flipped and caught fire at the intersection of South Wayside Drive and Lawndale, according to Houston Police Department officials. Investigators remained at the scene late into the night as crews cleared the wreckage. The person killed has not yet been identified, and authorities have not said whether any other vehicles or injuries were involved.

According to FOX 26 Houston, which cited the Houston Police Department, the vehicle rolled and then caught fire at the South Wayside and Lawndale intersection. The station reported late Saturday that details were still limited while investigators worked the crash site.

Where It Happened

The wreck occurred along a stretch of South Wayside in southeast Houston that has seen multiple serious collisions in recent years. ABC13 Houston reported a fatal single-vehicle crash on South Wayside in January 2025. Earlier this month, a separate deadly collision near Tidwell and Wayside this month was also reported. Investigators in Saturday’s rollover are expected to review factors such as speed, road conditions and any possible mechanical issues as the probe moves forward.

Investigation

HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, which typically handles major roadway collisions, will lead the investigation into Saturday’s rollover, based on the department’s past handling of similar cases.
