Gulf Freeway Horror, Man Killed After Stepping Out Of SUV Near El Dorado

A late-night crash on the southbound Gulf Freeway turned deadly Saturday when a man who had just wrecked his SUV was struck and killed after stepping out onto the roadway, according to Houston police. The collision unfolded near El Dorado, shutting down southbound lanes while investigators worked the scene.

Crash Details

Police say the driver of a Dodge Durango hit a concrete wall and came to a stop in the southbound lanes before getting out of the vehicle. While he was standing in a travel lane, a Chevrolet heading south hit him. Emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene, and the driver of the Chevrolet stayed and spoke with investigators.

As reported by KHOU, the chain of events began around 9:40 p.m., when the Durango struck the wall and became disabled in the freeway lanes. A 9-year-old girl riding in the Chevrolet was injured in the impact and taken to a nearby hospital.
