About 100 people rode their bicycles through Houston on Saturday afternoon to protest the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis a week earlier.
The bike ride, which began at 1:30 p.m. at EaDo Bike Co. near Shell Energy Stadium, was slated to wind 15 miles through Houston. It was one of more than 200 such rides nationwide on Saturday, in solidarity with a memorial ride organized by Pretti’s local bike shop in Minneapolis.
“We’re here today to honor the sacrifice that Alex Pretti made last week when he was murdered by ICE trying to care for his community,” an organizer told the small crowd, many of whom had donned gloves and hats under their helmets for the brisk weather. The organizer said the ride was also intended to honor Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on Jan. 7, and “all the unnamed people who have been killed by our government in this administration.”…
