Soon, you’ll need an appointment to get heavy trash picked up | How Houston’s new program will work

HOUSTON — We’ve reported on big delays in heavy trash pickup across the City of Houston, and now the city has a plan to address it.

In a City Council meeting earlier this week, Houston Solid Waste Director Larius Hassan laid out the change, which involves scheduling pickup appointments instead of trucks going down every street looking for heavy trash.

According to Hassan, the previous system wasn’t sustainable at a citywide scale. Crews were driving every street whether trash was out or not, which led to delays and backlogs that impacted neighborhoods…
