The Houston Zoo says goobye to a beloved animal born at the zoo

HOUSTON — The Houston Zoo is mourning the loss of Zamir, a zebu who spent his entire life at the zoo after being born there more than two decades ago.

Zamir lived all 21 years of his life at the Houston Zoo, where he was cared for by animal care and veterinary teams in the John P. McGovern Children’s Zoo. As he aged, zoo officials said Zamir experienced a gradual decline in health and mobility.

After closely monitoring his condition and focusing on his comfort and quality of life, the zoo made what it described as a difficult decision to humanely euthanize him…
