‘Avoid the area’ | HFD battling wildfire in NE Houston, residents could be asked to evacuate if conditions change

HOUSTON — A wildfire is burning in northeast Houston, and residents nearby are being urged to stay alert in case evacuations are ordered, according to the Houston Fire Department.

According to HFD, the fire is burning near Greens Bayou and John Ralston Road and began Saturday on flood control property. Fire officials say the size of the fire is still being assessed. HFD previously estimated the fire to be 175 acres, while fire officials told KHOU 11 that between 100 and 175 acres have burned so far, indicating the situation remains fluid.

As of 7:45 p.m. Sunday, HFD said the fire was 30% contained. Fire crews have been working the fire overnight and are expected to remain on scene for several days…
