Rodeo traffic will be worse than usual this year, TxDOT says

If you’re heading to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this year, expect heavier-than-usual traffic—and not just because of the carnival and concerts.

March is shaping up to be an event-filled month, so residents and newcomers should prepare for above-normal traffic volume in the Greater Houston area. In an interview with Chron, Danny Perez, lead public information officer for the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Houston District, pointed to several factors converging at once: the rodeo, spring break travel, the World Baseball Classic and ongoing highway construction projects across the region.

“The rodeo is not going to be the only thing going on,” he said. “There’s going to be more traffic and more people traveling in these areas, especially around NRG Stadium.”

TxDOT is simultaneously juggling several large-scale projects, including work tied to the North Houston Highway Improvement Project, construction along I-10 near White Oak and the Katy Freeway approaching downtown, as well as work near the 288/69 interchange south of downtown…
