‘Massive puzzle:’ Downtown Houston resurfacing 85 streets by World Cup

Downtown Houston streets are being torn up block by block as crews race against the clock to finish a massive road overhaul before global crowds arrive for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Drivers have likely noticed construction crews grinding away at pavement across the city center. Officials say it’s all part of a sweeping effort to resurface more than 80 blocks and 30 intersections.
