‘Junk’ sold to patients battling life-threatening disease, judge says

HOUSTON — A federal judge in Houston sentenced a man to 43-months in prison and ordered him to pay restitution after he was convicted of selling a counterfeit cancer drug.

Sanjay Kumar, an Indian national, was arrested in 2024, after he and others set up the sale of counterfeit Keytruda.

Keytruda is an FDA-approved drug used to treat many cancers, including lung, head, neck, gastric, cervical and breast cancers. Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC holds the exclusive right to authorize the manufacture and distribution of genuine Keytruda…
