Houston, Texas – Drivers across Southeast Texas could face rapidly flooding streets within minutes Wednesday as thunderstorms capable of dumping 1 to 3 inches of rain per hour develop ahead of a cold front moving across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, storms are expected to form Wednesday morning and continue into the afternoon, with the greatest severe weather threat north of the Houston metro area and east of Caldwell. The agency places parts of the Piney Woods region under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms, while the remainder of Southeast Texas carries a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5)
