Kroger officially closes Houston, Spring grocery stores

Houston’s supermarket scene has officially lost two major grocery stores. Kroger’s locations in the Heights neighborhood at 239 W. 20th St., and at 6060 FM 292 in Spring are no longer open.

The store closures were confirmed last month as “part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business,” as Chron previously reported. At that time, a Kroger spokesperson said the Spring and Heights locations would close by April 10.  But on March 30, Chron was notified by the chain’s communications team that both locations closed over the weekend.

The Spring and Heights stores are just two of several locations shuttered around the Houston area since Kroger’s decision to close 60 stores over an 18-month period. At the time, the chain didn’t reveal which locations would be impacted. But since June, Kroger’s stores at Hedwig Village, Spring Branch and on Veterans Memorial Drive near Bammel North Houston Road have also closed for good…
