Arrest Made in 2 Texas Killing Fields cases showing link between suspects

GALVESTON – An arrest has been made in connection with two of the Texas Killing Fields deaths shedding light on two friends who reportedly took part in the deaths.

Galveston County District Attorney Kenneth Cusick revealed that Clyde Hedrick, a long-time suspect in the death of Laura Miller and others committed suicide in the hospital by removing his breathing tube March 21, according to information from the hospital. Cusick also stated that Hedrick and James Dolphs Elmore, Jr. had been good friends. Before his death, the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office had been preparing to present evidence to a grand jury to obtain four murder indictments against Hedrick, including a capital murder indictment in the 1984 disappearance of 16-year-old Laura Miller.

After Hedrick’s death, the District Attorney’s Office obtained indictments against James Dolphs Elmore, Jr. for manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of Laura Miller, and tampering with evidence in the death of Audrey Cook.
