HOUSTON — The sudden closure of a national retail chain is leaving small business owners across the Houston area scrambling to recover inventory and absorb financial losses.

After KHOU 11 first reported on the shutdown of Painted Tree Boutiques, several local vendors say they have struggled to access their merchandise — in some cases because property managers changed locks and restricted entry.
