Hochman Pushes DUI Crackdown Named for Braun Levi in Sacramento Crime Package

LOS ANGELES – The death of a Manhattan Beach teenager is now part of a broader push by Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman to toughen California’s criminal laws, with his office urging lawmakers to approve six public safety bills now moving through Sacramento.

The locally tied measure is Senate Bill 907, which incorporates “Braun’s Law,” named for Braun Levi, a Loyola High School student who was killed last year in Manhattan Beach by an alleged repeat drunk driver.

The bill would require courts to warn certain DUI offenders that if they drive under the influence again and cause a fatal crash, they could face second-degree murder charges…
