Fire forces school lockdown in Orange County

Parents and some youngsters in Fullerton received a bit of a scare on Monday afternoon after a fire raced through an abandoned building located next to their school.

Orangethorpe Elementary was locked down while emergency crews fought to put out the blaze that was first reported around 1:20 p.m.

The fire occurred near the intersection of Orangethorpe Ave. and Brookhurst Road. Firefighters didn’t immediately know or release the cause of the fire, and there were no reports of any injuries.

Residents from the area told KTLA 5’s Chip Yost that there’s been concern about the home being used by squatters.

Orangethorpe Elementary has classes for kids from kindergarten through the sixth grade.
