Renowned, Trailblazing California Surfer Makes History as Youngest Female World Champion

Oceanside surfer Caitlin Simmers made history on Friday at the 2024 World Surfing League Finals in San Clemente, California, by becoming the youngest-ever female surfing world champion. Simmers clinched the title by defeating reigning WSL Champion Caroline Marks in a thrilling final.

In addition to her historic win, Simmers’ victory marks California’s first women’s World Title in 40 years, according to the World Surf League. The championship also saw Hawaii’s John John Florence secure the men’s title, as both Simmers and Florence triumphed over the final five challengers.

The win further solidifies Simmers’ place in surfing history and highlights a significant achievement for Californian surfing.
