The Breakers Hotel in Long Beach —home of the famed Sky Room restaurant— reopens this week as the Fairmont Breakers Hotel . Bringing along new design elements but retaining much of its classic look, the resurrected locale has 185 guest rooms, including 22 suites that blend its historic past with new technology including access to touch panel beds and USB outlets.
Built on Ocean Ave. in Long Beach, the luxury hotel is among the most iconic buildings in the city according to Julie Bartolotto, Historical Society of Long Beach’s executive director.
Originally built on the edge of the beach, the place got its name as a reference to the breaking waves at its perimeter. The building currently sits on a bluff that has easy access to the Long Beach Convention Center, offering guests a prime seat to events there, such as the upcoming Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 4.
The location also allows guests of the hotel to look over Long Beach’s Rainbow Lagoon and the Port of Long Beach, a perfect pastime for those who find stillness in watching sea vessels slide along the water.
