Teenage boy arrested for fatally shooting ex-girlfriend in Long Beach

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody for allegedly fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in Long Beach, police announced Tuesday.

Officers were sent to the 900 block of Gaviota Avenue around 11:40 a.m. Nov. 22 on reports of a woman with a gunshot wound, according to the Long Beach Police Department. The victim, Justice Lopez, 21, was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Lopez’s ex-boyfriend was located Nov. 26 in the 6100 block of Orange Avenue, where he was arrested and booked for two unrelated warrants and was being held without bail. The teen was later identified as the suspect in the killing.

His name was not released due to his age.

It was unclear what motivated the shooting. The investigation was continuing.
